Green Parking sets out its plans to establish St Mark’s Place as the primary car park for Newark town centre and the Market Place. Green Parking is a well-established UK car parking operator with over 25 years’ experience. Our focus has always been on the customer, and this is reflected in our tariff structures and in the investment we make to ensure the most appropriate parking systems for each town we operate in. Green Parking already operates sites in Derby, Nottingham and Peterborough, with senior management supporting on-site operations on a day-to-day basis.
Green Parking has taken over operation of the multi-storey car park at St Mark’s Place, Newark, following the departure of the previous operator, NCP, at the end of July 2026.
Speaking as CEO of Green Parking, Neil Edwards said the company’s ambition is clear: to establish St Mark’s Place as the primary, go-to car park for Newark town centre and the historic Market Place.
To support that ambition, Green Parking has introduced a simplified and more affordable tariff structure, priced at £1.00 per hour, with an all-day rate of just £4.00 that also covers overnight stays. Local residents will also benefit from new parking permits, offering competitive long-stay rates in Newark town centre.
The car park has already received the prestigious Safer Parking Award and Safer Accessible Award from Nottinghamshire Police, and Green Parking has established a close working relationship with the local police, with the shared aim of keeping anti-social behaviour under control.
The secure pedestrian gate system has been upgraded with three new S4 Flowbird touchscreen payment terminals, offering fully ticketless payment. Motorists can also pre-book and pay via JustPark, giving visitors greater flexibility, whether they are planning ahead or paying on arrival.
Other improvements include a new ANPR system, which replaces the previous barrier system to reduce congestion at the entrance, along with new LED lighting throughout the car park.
Green Parking has retained the site’s existing on-site team — Lee, Darren and Nick — who will continue to keep the car park clean and welcoming, and will be on hand to help visitors with any questions or issues that arise during their visit. Green Parking is committed to the highest service standards, and our staff reflect that commitment. We believe visitors to St Mark’s Place car park will notice the difference and enjoy a positive parking experience.
Neil Edwards, CEO of Green Parking, said:
“Newark provides a great opportunity for Green Parking to introduce the latest parking technology, in an approach shaped around the needs of St Mark’s Place and the town centre. Our focus is to make the parking experience safe, affordable and easy, and we hope this will be reflected in the feedback we receive as the car park settles into its new routine. We are also mindful of managing the local bird population within the car park, and are working with environmental specialists on preventative measures to help keep the site clean and welcoming for our customers. In addition, we are introducing new road markings and dedicated staff patrols in the service yard, to help ensure this important access area, which serves St Mark’s Place, is used only by authorised vehicles.”
